Saturday, February 27th, 2010 Awesometown Open House

So today was Crossfit Quantum’s Open House so it was definitely NO surprise that I was going to show up. I have been waiting for this for months.

It is a great space, very intimate with lots of potential. I love their pullup bar stations. Unfortunately (haha!) the epoxy was still curing so we didn’t do any pullups today.

Opening WOD – 12 minutes AMRAP of:
10 Burpees
10 Thrusters (55#)

Total - 5 rounds + 10 burpees + 5 thrusters

Summer was there with awesome paleo treats and info on her new business, there were awesome snacks and awesome people. One of the snacks that surprised me the most was Tyler’s Mom’s (correct use of apostrophes?) paleo granola. I have really missed being able to have cereal over the last few years since turning primal so it was awesome to have something so amazing that was gluten/wheat free!!

Lisa and Leah and I have decided to make today’s WOD a benchmark workout. I think I am going to attempt it again in 1 month’s time and see how I do. I’m a bit scared to get back into the swing of things with my training (the last 2 months have been HORRIBLE!) but I am looking forward to launching myself into the spring super strong and fit.

I think the direction my training is going to take is going to be as follows:

Month of March - AWESOMETOWN! Workout 2-3+ times a week at Crossfit Quantum… still continuing with the shitty burpee challenge. Play Hooverball once a week.

April to October – my home gym will be my primary workout location (House of Cyn) while visiting places like CFQ and Strength Box intermittently. Keep my eyes peeled for any neat certification opportunities (I’m thinking about doing a Kettlebell and dumbbell certification). Purchases for my home gym during this time will include:
1. Women’s Olympic bar + 15# plates.
2. Pullup station in the backyard
3. Dumbbells

November to December - continue to use my home gym but because the weather will be getting crappier leaving me with fewer options of movements to do inside my house (not enough space for overhead movements) I will purchase consecutive 10 class packages at CFQ and look at attending 2X a week while doing home wods X2+/week. I would also like to maintain doing Bikram yoga once a week and Hooverball. Purchase for my home gym:
1. Rowing machine

On the nutrition front, I have tried to reduce the amount of sucking I had regressed to since the Christmas break. Carl and I are now exclusively ordering out meat from “Fresh From the Farm” which is like an outlet store that sells products made by Mennonite/Amish farmers in Ontario. We can get grass fed beef and elk and organic chicken at a reasonable price… but the best part is knowing the meat is hormone free and really good quality. It is amazing to me how much less I need to eat when the quality is higher. I feel like old commercial “You can taste the difference quality makes.”

Thanks everyone for motivating me to kick start getting back on track to being a good human being again! I love you all!!!
